Ireland--The plight of horses in Ireland mirrors the larger crisis for horses not only in Europe but in many areas of the United States as the tight economy makes horses an expendable commodity to owners who are struggling to survive.​

     Watching this YouTube video showing how horses in Ireland are literally abandoned--let off the truck in the middle of the night--or sold for nearly nothing will make it clear how difficult times are for the entire world of horses. It is clearly seen how even owners who love their animals in this video are forced to sell or abandon them as they fight for their own survival in an economy that may leave them in large debt through sudden job loss or may even allow them little more than the clothing on their backs.

       This disturbing trend leaves governments and communities wondering what they can do to help the situation without a real economic upturn.
